STD Protection

Sexuality is an important aspect of your life and it goes without saying that everyone is sexual. But it become very important to make the right decisions when it comes to expressing your sexuality.

Because if you indulge in unsafe sex, you can end up being infected with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Therefore, it becomes a necessity to educate yourself about STD protection.

How can I protect myself?

Abstaining from sex offers the best way to protect yourself from STDs. If that is not possible, then be involved in a mutual monogamous relationship, where you know your sex partner is uninfected and tested for STDs. Other ways to protect yourself are:

  • Use a 'latex' condom every time when you have oral, vaginal or anal sex. Condoms offer protection from STDs most of the time. Both males and females should carry condoms. .
  • In addition to condoms, use birth control foam, jelly or cream. These help kill the STD germs.
  • Talk to your partner about needle drug use and past sex partners. Avoid sex with someone whom you suspect to have STD.
  • Go for regular checkups to rule out the possibility of being infected with STDs. If you have multiple sex partners, get yourself examined every time you feel you are at risk.
  • Know the symptoms and signs of an STD. In case you notice a symptom that bothers you, get yourself examined.

  • Be responsible and avoid any kind of sexual activity if you are being treated for an STD or if you have symptoms of an STD.
  • Your risk of contracting an STD is increased if you have many sex partners at the same time.
